Howard Zinn Book Fair
Web/App Design
Investigation begins here
Problem
The Howard Zinnn book fair is a yearly event that takes place at the CCSF Mission Campus. The “organization” that facilitates the event did not have an active website, and wanted to
develop a new and improved one this year. A website was necessary not only to showcase more information about the fair, but also to announce future events, as well as publish blogs about speakers, publishers, writers, and any additional interviews that were conducted. The organizers also wanted links on the site to be available, accessible, and easy for site visitors to engage and utilize.
The fair audience consists of mainly individuals who align themselves with socialists, anti-fascism, and other political efforts/organizations/writers, including writers for the people. The organizers wanted to ensure that the website didn’t come off like an overt political statement, or too “protesty”, and instead aimed for the site to be more welcoming and colorful so as to appeal to a wider range of site visitors.
Findings
Ensuring that the heavy text for the publishers and schedule would be clean and clear without feeling overwhelming.
Colors feel more welcoming and less politicized, with just splashes of colorful highlights to ensure the interface remains breathable as opposed to bogged down with actual text or political subtext

Result
Helped with revenue, participant traffic, and overall promotion about the event, books, writers, and publishers.
